Emotional Advertising, what do you think????

by Michael Curtis on September 1, 2009

As a small business owner, I’m always trying to make our advertising bucks stretch as far as possible, or being totally honest, I’d rather try and spend NOTHING on advertising , if I could get away with it.

However, in reality this is not possible. We all know that word of mouth is the cheapest and most effective way of getting new clients, but even for an established business, it would be suicide to rely totally on just one form of advertising.

Below is an advert we are using in the U (The West Australian News) section, this week on Wednesday 2nd September 2009 and also in the 2010 Yellow Pages under Day Spas. If I told you the price you’ probably wouldn’t believe me, so I won’t tell you. But like all businesses, large or small, if we’re not getting new clients in the door our business is going backwards.

Now, I’m sure you’ll agree…

Client’s stop coming for a myriad of reasons, of which, most of the time, has nothing to do with the business itself. And, that’s why at Blush we do our upmost to stay in touch with our clients, with a Monthly Newsletter, Blog, Emails, Facebook, so you always know what’s going on.

That’s why I need your expert advice…

From your perspective, as a client, I’m not sure you even know why you stop using a particular business or services. Was, it the cost ? Perhaps poor service, etc. etc. However, I’m sure if you sat back and thought about it, it’s probably a combination of many reasons, but the main one’s would be you didn’t feel appreciated or didn’t feel as though you had an experience. I doubt whether it was the actual product or service.

Which leads me to why I need your opinion on the advert below. I know the text is a little hazy but you can see a clearer picture on the Blush Facebook  Page – wall photos.

If you could comment on the advert below, I’d really appreciate it!

I loved the advert – thought the headline was cleverly worded, and it definately draws the eye. I assume your target audience is 18-35’s, and this would definately appeal. If I wasn’t already an existing client, this ad would have tempted me in, and the $25 gift card would be an extra carrot.
For me, I will return to a business repeatedly if I am happy with service, product and cost – and in fact will to a degree overlook cost for service and product. I will never return if staff are rude, (and will go out of my way to tell my friends about it too) but on the same note will always promote a business I’m happy with.
I love the facebook and newletters – I think you’re doing everything you can to promote yourselves.
Well done Blush Team!!

Hi Michael,
Looks like you’ve got most of the major areas covered from looking and reading through your website.
Possibly look at making it easier for you clients to refer. Give them offers to hand out to friends and family. Maybe a little incentive for them – comes back to WIIFM (What’s In It For Me). Something like refer 10 clients you get your next service for free up to value of $–.
Are you ringing the client after the service to ensure they loved it, get feedback. Another offer made to them then.
Love the advert. Editorials are way better than normal adds. Love the headline/s. Great to see someone willing to be a little bold and stand out from the crowd. Couldn’t read the add but looks good. I’m sure you would have done well with it.
You’ve certainly got my attention!
