If you have a round face, consider a short cut that ends an inch or two below the jawbone and has a few long layers. Blunt bobs only accentuate the roundness. High forehead? Cover up your large forehead with blunt or side-swept bangs like this one.

Tip No. 2: Your hair texture and type If you have straight hair, you’re in luck. Short hair will be easy for you to maintain with little fuss. An important part of your weekly skin routine is exfoliation and you can use facial scrubs, microdermabrasion kits or peels. Does drinking 7 glasses of water a day keep my skin moist?

Apart from my Mum always telling me to drink lots of water, I remember reading this for the first time in Woman’s Day Magazine and being despondent because I found drinking water to be the world’s most boring thing. I preferred Orange juice, Coke and a room temperature Elderton Shiraz.

So is it true that you need seven glasses of water a day to keep skin moist and dewy?

Answer: No. Despite years of having this drummed into our heads, this is not true. It is good to keep your body, including your skin, hydrated, however the outermost layer of skin does not absorb water since it is made up of dead skin cells. Moisture level of skin is not determined by internal factors, but rather external ones, such as cold or hot air, dry heat and by the number of oil-producing glands you have. So if you want to hydrate your skin, exfoliate it weekly with a sea-salt scrub or other exfoliator to remove dead skin then apply a rich moisturizer while skin is still damp. Want to hydrate your insides then by all means, drink your 7 glasses of water a day.

The skin around the eyes is very delicate, thin, and susceptible to damage. It’s also among the first places we see changes in our appearance. Eye creams specifically combat the environmental conditions that cause our various eye problems. Eye creams assist your wrinkles, they also tone the skin helping reduce there formation.

Why YOU shouldn’t use a normal face creme around my eyes?

The skin under the eye is much different from the rest of your face. It is much more fragile, therefore more prone to the signs of aging caused by dehydration, makeup, sun, pollution. Facial moisturizers are not intended for use around the eyes, because the ingredients are usually too strong for the delicate eye area. It can create a build up, giving you a sagging under the eye effect (Just what you don’t want). Or even little white hard spots (milia) from too much oil build up.

Let me tell you more about how the right Eye Cream can help…

Puffy eyes – can be caused by fluid retention and/or allergies. Fluid retention is caused by fluid that builds up under your eyes as you sleep, and is a temporary condition. It tends to be most severe when you’re struggling with allergies, sinus problems, or premenstrual syndrome. Dark circles – may be a result of any number of things: a highly pigmented skin condition, enlarged blood vessels under the delicate eye skin, dehydration, fatigue, overexposure to the sun, or the aging process can bring it on, as well as medical conditions pertaining to thyroid or renal issues. Even menopause can do its share in bringing on dark circles. The skin underneath our eyes becomes even more delicate as we get older, and the veins under the eyes grow more prominent as we age. If the blood vessels are enlarged, a cold compress can restrict the blood vessels, reducing the appearance of dark circles.
Fine lines & Crow’s feet – may be making their appearance under your eyes, and in the corners. Why are wrinkles so common in this area?The skin is thinner because there are a lesser amount of oil glands located around the eyes.

Our everyday facial expressions make use of our eye area, whether we are squinting because of the sun, smiling, or laughing. Smoking can also be a culprit in causing crow’s feet. Wrinkles and fine lines are made more obvious when skin is dry, so keeping the area moisturized will keep it looking supple, and fine lines will be less obvious.

Glycolic Acid, How Does It Benefit Your Skin?

If you have dry, flaky, sun damaged, coarse or mature skin that needs a good kick up the bum. You could definitely benefit greatly from one of the many fabulous Glycolic Facials available today or by simply using the best prescribed glycolic products, which can give you instant results and make you look years younger.

For starters what is Glycolic Acid?

Just in case you’re interested, let’s get the technical stuff out of the way first. Glycolics are a member of the alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) family, it is the smallest AHA and works not only on the surface of the skin, but also in the layers we cannot see. Glycolic acid has garnered a lot of attention in the beauty industry over the last ten years. Additional products for home use include glycolic lotions, glycolic cleansers, moisturizers, gels, toners and serums.Glycolic acid is the most active and beneficial form of alpha hydroxy acid. A natural derivative of sugar cane, glycolic acid has amazing exfoliating properties and is used extensively in skin care products. Popular sources of glycolic acid include the citric acid of lemon, orange and grapefruit extracts.

Let me explain just a few benefits…

I’ve used glycolic’s for years and my skin has never felt or looked better. The acid acts as a natural exfoliator to the skin and scrapes dead skin cells. But before I get ahead of myself, how does it work???

Glycolic acid does many different things, all of which can be beneficial to the skin. It’s acid is a rapid exfoliant. On the surface of the skin, it dissolves the fatty molecules that keep the dead, dry skin cells on the surface of the skin. When it dissolves these molecules, the dead skin cells are washed away, leaving only the new, radiant skin behind. Your skin will feel smooth and soft, and because the dead skin cells have been removed, your other products, like moisturizers, will better penetrate the skin, making them more effective. I still personally believe that skin resurfacing and exfoliation are the most important part of proper skin care.

And guess what?

Used over time, glycolic acid will start working beneath the skin’s surface to produce more advanced results. It can lighten pigmentation caused by sun damage and it will stimulate collagen production. Loss of collagen and sun damage are both signs of aging skin. Increasing the collagen production makes skin more supple, and fine lines and wrinkles less visible. Lightening the sun spots and other skin discoloration makes the skin appears more youthful as well.

Yes it’s true, glycolic acid skin care is also excellent for acne-prone skin…

Because of its small molecular structure, it is well able to battle acne. Just as the glycolic acid dissolves the dead skin cells, glycolic acid will also work to destroy Propionibacterium, which is the bacterium that causes whiteheads and other acne. People who experience mild to moderate acne will benefit from using glycolic acid products on a semi-regular basis. Sun and UV Protection in Perth…

In Perth, Western Australia, we have the harshest UV rays of anywhere in the world and it’s no wonder, you’ve heard many times, a loved one or a friend telling you to put on some sunscreen!

As it turns out, using sunscreen is important, not only when it’s hot outside, but even if you work in front of a computer all day, and all-year-round. Whether or not you know it, the sun is constantly giving off harmful UV rays. Yes, even in the winter time, you are being exposed to this.

Therefore, it is important that you always protect yourself…

All of us, in our lifetimes, will come across someone we either know personally or through someone else who has skin cancer.

Prevention is better than cure…

The worse thing you could do would be to walk around thinking that it would never happen to you. Today, it is not uncommon to come across someone who has skin cancer, and nine times out of ten if you talk to them, you will find out that they were diagnosed with it after they spent a considerable amount of time in the sun.

What typically happens when someone has skin cancer is that skin is grafted from another part of their body to replace the infected skin.

Anyone can get skin cancer.

Of course, this risk is higher for those who spend a lot of time in the sun and don’t properly protect themselves. For instance, many golfers, footballers and other athletes are at an increased risk. This is why it is so important to purchase a great UV 30+ Sunscreen for those days when you know that you’re going to be out in the sun for extended periods of time.

Tanning beds are also another thing that puts people at risk for developing problems…

If anything, tanning beds are worse because you are getting direct concentration of UV light. If used properly, tanning beds aren’t that bad and can be safe. However, as is the case with a lot of other things, many people misuse or abuse this. When you use a tanning bed, you should still apply sunblock or sunscreen. Another thing worth mentioning is the fact that before you go out into the sun or before you use a tanning bed, make sure that you apply your sunscreen at least 30 minutes to an hour prior to exposing yourself to the sun’s harmful UV rays.

Whether you are out in the sun or not…

You’ll also want to make sure that you have plenty of moisturizing cream and/or Aloe Vera around. When your skin is exposed to UV rays or harsh elements such as dry air, it dries your skin out, robbing it of essential moisture that it needs. When your skin dries out, this will often lead to cracking, peeling and the all too familiar sun burn. If you do get a sun burn, make sure that you apply plenty of hydrating lotion every hour.
